BSI Introduces New Menopause Standard to Enhance Support for Experienced Workers

BSI, the UK National Standards Body, has published the new "Menstruation, Menstrual Health, and Menopause in the Workplace" standard (BS 30416) after extensive consultation with experts and the public. This standard offers practical recommendations for workplace adjustments and strategies to complement existing well-being initiatives, aiming to support employees experiencing menopause or menstruation. The standard was developed to help organizations prioritize the needs of their colleagues and address potential loss of skilled workers in the workforce.


Currently, an estimated 10% of women experiencing menopause leave their jobs due to symptoms, with global menopause productivity losses reaching over $150 billion annually. BSI convened a panel of experts to develop the standard, recognizing the growing impact as more women remain in the workforce. By 2025, it is estimated that more than 1 billion people worldwide will experience menopause, comprising 12% of the global population.
